Front Zipper Pouch +

More time - more energy to publish my hand creations :)

Today I have spent some quality time in my sewing room making this zippered pouch to add to a mini quilt and send away to the US to my swap partner. That's right, taking part in an international quilt swap and it's high time to start shipping the quilts! :-) 

What is special about this pouch is the way it is constructed - no open seams, machine sewn-in zipper, all lined, nice and tidy! Perfect!!! 

This is probably the best way to make a pouch for me, so far.

To make it complete, here is the mini I am sending to my American swap partner. The rule was to use at least two fabrics with some writing on them :) I have used the opportunity and tried a new way to sew small squares - that was a piece of cake!!! Took the photos of the process and will try to publish a tutorial. 

Cotton + Steel Quilt for my boat

Busy summer is nearly over and I am back with a new quilt creation :) 

This was a love at first sight! The design for this quilt was featured in the Stitch magazine as a baby blanket. This is because the width of the fabric is 42" and to make it any wider, you would need to add extra piece. That means, the seam might be visible on the top and we would rather not have the seam. Well... after a short period of thinking, I decided to take a risk and make this quilt in a double size. The seam actually looks alright. 

The key features though here are my personal innovation - an extra wide binding! - and a cotton wool mix batting that made the quilt extremely soft and light! 

Quilted it on my longarm machine using clamshells groovy board. 

As planned, I took the quilt to my boat today to keep it there and if my stamina lasts, I will make two cusions to go with it. Someday! :)

Feathers Quilt 2

 After a break, I am back to the blogging space - with a new quilt! I've been with all the life challenges but quilting has never stopped and here is this gourgeous quilt I have quilted for commission. 

The pattern is by the talented Jo Avery, made by Lesley Corrie and quilted by me. :-)

Giant feathers mixed with staight lines - awesome! Definitely going to use this approach again and again. Any ornament mixed with straight lines adds a modern look and feel to a quilt. :-)

Квилт не мой - моя стежка. Перья с прямыми линиями - нравится эта находка. И современно, и в то же время не совсем уж минималистично. :)

New Spring Quilt

Ждала ждала солнечной погоды, да так и не дождалась! Пришлось фотографировать с кусочком солнца, а то хуже нет - закончить очередной квилт и не иметь возможности показать фото!!! :))

А этот получился особенно интересный! Так и сияет. 

Сшила для маленькой девочки - дочки одной моей очень хорошей знакомой девушки. :) Надеюсь, одеялко найдет свое место у новых хозяек! :-) хх

И еще по дороге сделала фото процесса - поэтому скоро будет и МК! Эти гексагончики можно шить бесконечно и в разных вариантах!

I finished this quilt about a week ago and all this time been waiting for sunny weather so I could make really good pictures! Alas. Some sunshine this afternoon is all I got. You really want to show the photos as soon as you complete a quilt - I do)) 

Especially as this quilt is a present for a little girl - a daughter of my old friend - and I want to give it to her as an Easter present. 

The good news is I did manage to take the photos while I was making the quilt - so very soon there will be a tutorial on how to put together these lovely hexies! :-) xx

Попробовала пришить кайму на машинке - и не жалею! Теперь - только так! :)

Tried the machine binding - awesome result! Never hand-stitched binding again))

Double Feathers quilt

Очередной квилт и очередные перья. :) Нравятся клиенту перья - а мне нравится их стегать. Поэтому снова перья - и в дизайне топа и в дизайне стежки. 

Решила в этот раз стегать не бежевыми или серыми, а подобрать нитки точно по цвету фона - тем более, он такой неповторимый бирюзовый! И правильно сделала - нитки совершенно сливаются с фоном и не отвлекают от этих красивых лоскутных перьев. 

Нитки использовала Aurifil 50wt

Дизайн топа разработан Jo Avery и был напечатан в 9-ом выпуске журнала Love of Patchwork and Quilting. 

Another quilt and another set of feathers :) A really nice lady approached me via Jo - the leader of our quilt guild - and asked to finish her Feathers quilt with... yes, feathers! :) 

That was a pleasant job to do as Mairi has done an awesome job to piece the quilt top! 

I used the Aurifil thread in light turquoise colour to match the background.

The top design was created by very talented designer Jo Avery and published in Issue 9 of Love Patchwork and Quilting magasine. Jo regularly runs classes in her lovely studio in Edinburgh where she teaches how to create this lovely Feathers quilt top.

Star Wars quilt top

Решила сшить квилт для одного мальчика, Сашиного близкого приятеля. Мальчик очень серьезно болен... 

Игрушек у него полно, поэтому я подумала, что может стоит сшить ему такой квилт в стиле Звездных Войн! Мальчишки всех возрастов их просто обажают! 

Как выяснилось в процессе черчения схемы, мне не хватает синей ткани на фон... Купила два метра, а надо было три. Но так как зуд в руках уже пошел, то решила сшить хотя бы звезду - на нее то ткани у меня хватало :)) 

Довольна. Сошью весь топ - буду думать о стежке. Хочется чего-то особенного тоже. 

This is the centre of a quilt I am making for my son's very close friend. The boy is only 5 and is very unwell at the moment. So, I have decided to make him a quilt - Star Wars theme was an obvious choice, the boys of all ages just love Star Wars, don't they? :) 

The only thing, I have not ordered enough background fabric. But was so desparate to start! So here is the centre star - looks great!!! 

Once the top is finished, will have to think about quilting design - I wonder what would suit best here?? :) 

Feathers, feathers, feathers!

Неожиданно для меня, но, наверное, закономерно - одна моя знакомая лоскутница попросила выстегать ее лоскутное одеяло. Только посмотрев на этот чудесный лоскутный верх, на розочки и все конфетные цвета, я без сомнения поняла - стегать только перьями! :) 

Сказано - сделано! Квилт готов и ждет своей хозяйки. Мне безумно нравится, как он смотрится! Такое удовольствие получила от стежки - не передать! Ну перья - это перья! :-) х

Unexpectedly for me one of my quilting friends has asked to finish her top on my longarm machine. As soon as I saw the top, I did not have any doubts on the quilting design - it should be feathers!!! The feathers compliment the sweet roses and the pastel colours so much - I love love love it!!!

ESME Block - in Liberty style!

Возвращаюсь в русло лоскутков и стежки...вроде) 

Увидела этот блок в декабрьском выпуске журнала Love of Patchwork & Quilting. Это относительно новый журнал и уже очень популярный - все-таки современное лоскутное шитье занимает свое место под солнцем и уверенно! :))

А это блок месяца - я влюбилась с первого взгляда! Сразу же нырнула в свои ткани - выбрать что-то необыкновенное! Потому что больше одного блока я все равно не сошью, а оскомину сбить хочется)) 

В итоге оторавала от сердца кусочек ткани Либерти :-))) Но она тут просто сияет! Времени ушло - два вечера. Техника - шитье по бумаге для заморозки.

Скорее всего добавлю еще белой каймы и выстрочу с линейками и прочими премудростями на лонгарме.

This is Block of the Month from the December issue of Love Patchwork & Quilting. Very striking pattern and very quick to make using freezer paper piecing method. 

Liberty fabric looks awesome here!

My plan is to add a white border and to quilt it on my longarm machine with lots of ruler work. :)

Japanese Origami Bag - number 6!

Остановите меня!!! Иначе я скоро изведу все свои запасы тканей! :-))

Это какое-то безумие, но я встала на скользкий путь)) Очередная японская торбочка! Носки купила первыми - подарок одной девочке. И тут же мысль заработала - надо их положить в такую сумочку! И для сумочки использовать ткань с Китти! Сказано - сделано!!! :-))) Чувствую, надо остановиться! "Но не могу, не могу, не могу, не могууууу!!! Не могу и не хочу!" (с) :-))

Шить что-то маленькое намного удобнее и легче, чем большие проекты - один вечер и вещь готова! Тут и кроется подвох))

Но вещь получилась милашка! ;) xx

Someone please stop me right now - my fabric stash is under real threat!))) Could not help it - bought a pair of Hello Kitty socks for a little girl and, of course! - they needed a Kitty bag to match! :-))) Hence Bag number 6) And I love it!!! 

The danger of making small things though is that it is hard to move back to large projects. ;) xx
