QuiltCon 2017, Part I - Angela Walters quilts

Back from Savannah from Quilting Convention - and keen to share the pictures of all the fabulous quilts I saw there! 

First part dedicated to my favourite longarm quilter Angela Walters, who was a featured speaker at QuiltCon2017 with her personal exibit, demonstrating some outstanding quilting work from Angela! 

Some photos show only close-up details as this is what I wanted to highlight most - Angela's machine quilting talent. I was drooling over these for hours )))) All and more quilts are beautifully photographed and collected within a fab book 'Quilting is My Therapy - Behind the stitches with Angela Walters'

I was lucky to get into two of Angela's longarm quilting classes at the QuiltCon - she is as talented teacher as a quilter! Very inspiring and generous in sharing her stuff. I can go on for ages... :))

In next blog post I will cover the winning and my favourite quilts from this year QuiltCon. ;)

Feathers Quilt 2

 After a break, I am back to the blogging space - with a new quilt! I've been with all the life challenges but quilting has never stopped and here is this gourgeous quilt I have quilted for commission. 

The pattern is by the talented Jo Avery, made by Lesley Corrie and quilted by me. :-)

Giant feathers mixed with staight lines - awesome! Definitely going to use this approach again and again. Any ornament mixed with straight lines adds a modern look and feel to a quilt. :-) 

Не прошло и года, как говорится, и вот я снова пишу пост в свой блог. Надеюсь, следующий перерыв будет короче)

Квилт не мой - моя стежка. Перья с прямыми линиями - нравится эта находка. И современно, и в то же время не совсем уж минималистично. :)

Double Feathers quilt

Очередной квилт и очередные перья. :) Нравятся клиенту перья - а мне нравится их стегать. Поэтому снова перья - и в дизайне топа и в дизайне стежки. 

Решила в этот раз стегать не бежевыми или серыми, а подобрать нитки точно по цвету фона - тем более, он такой неповторимый бирюзовый! И правильно сделала - нитки совершенно сливаются с фоном и не отвлекают от этих красивых лоскутных перьев. 

Нитки использовала Aurifil 50wt

Дизайн топа разработан Jo Avery и был напечатан в 9-ом выпуске журнала Love of Patchwork and Quilting. 

Another quilt and another set of feathers :) A really nice lady approached me via Jo - the leader of our quilt guild - and asked to finish her Feathers quilt with... yes, feathers! :) 

That was a pleasant job to do as Mairi has done an awesome job to piece the quilt top! 

I used the Aurifil thread in light turquoise colour to match the background.

The top design was created by very talented designer Jo Avery and published in Issue 9 of Love Patchwork and Quilting magasine. Jo regularly runs classes in her lovely studio in Edinburgh where she teaches how to create this lovely Feathers quilt top.

Feathers, feathers, feathers!

Неожиданно для меня, но, наверное, закономерно - одна моя знакомая лоскутница попросила выстегать ее лоскутное одеяло. Только посмотрев на этот чудесный лоскутный верх, на розочки и все конфетные цвета, я без сомнения поняла - стегать только перьями! :) 

Сказано - сделано! Квилт готов и ждет своей хозяйки. Мне безумно нравится, как он смотрится! Такое удовольствие получила от стежки - не передать! Ну перья - это перья! :-) х

Unexpectedly for me one of my quilting friends has asked to finish her top on my longarm machine. As soon as I saw the top, I did not have any doubts on the quilting design - it should be feathers!!! The feathers compliment the sweet roses and the pastel colours so much - I love love love it!!!

Modern Vintage - Challenge Quilt

Закончила небольшой квилт в компании с другими лонгарм квилтерами на  ФБ. Красиво получился. Долго думала над дизайном, в итоге взяла за основу дизайны Cyndy Needham из ее книги Wholecloth Linen Quilts, добавила свои и получилось очень даже. Использую этот дизайн и в будущем. 
Условием участия было использование ткани Radiance фирмы Роберт Кауфман. Это хлопковая ткань с добавлением шелка - стегать на ней одно удовольствие. У меня получился такой себе винтажный налет. 
Теперь можно вернуться к одеялкам)))

With my fellow long-arm quilters from FB, I have taken part in a quilt challenge, when we would make a mini wholecloth quilt using famous Radiance fabric by Robert Kaufman. The challenge was announced by Lisa Calle, a very talented quilter from the US. 

I've picked a dark gold colour and used gold YLI silk to quilt it - and it worked beautifully, as the golden thread virtually shines through the puffed bits of the quilt. 

Added some sparkly stones :) Couldn't help it)) and they do sparkle very nicely :-)) 

Pastels - Green

Решила, что набаловалась я простыми одеялками и простой стежкой - пора переходить на сбычу мечт. То есть, воплощать на лонгарме тонкую орнаментную стежку шелковыми нитками и при минимальном размере самого стежка. Красоту хочу создавать! :) 
Потренировалась я какое-то время и окончательно поняла, что размашистые лонгарм-перья - это не моё, а моё - это тонкость и изящество и этого я теперь буду добиваться, пока не добьюсь. Решать 'когда хватит' буду сама. Я ведь самый строгий судья. 
А пока. :) Первый квилтик из моего Пастельного периода (не путать с постельным))) Нежно-зеленый, любимый цвет. В тон шелковые нитки YLI. Дизайн собственного сочинения. Мне лично нравится. Продолжу в том же духе. 
Стегать тонкими нитками на лонгарме нелегко. Все-таки длинная 'рука' машины очень влияет на расстояние, которое приходится преодолеть нитке, пока она дойдет, наконец, до иголки и ткани. Пришлось поиграться с натяжением верхней нити. Но все оказалось преодолимо и не так и страшно, как казалось вначале. :)) На такую стежку я чую подсела плотно и надолго. Так что watch this space! ;) xx

It seems that I kind of had enough of making simple quilts with simple quilting. Decided to go back to my favorite ornamental quilting on wholecloth quilts. This is the first quilt from the new series of Pastels - Pale Green. I used the YLI silk thread for quilting and it was a challenge at times as this is extremely thin thread for a longarm quilting. But I have managed to tame it! :) I have a burning desire now to make more of these cuties, so watch this space! :) xx
